If you share your problems, you‟ll feel better.

Students these days often have a lot of worries. Sometimes we have problems 16 our schoolwork, or arguments with our friends. Perhaps we 17 worry about our parents‟ problems.

What can we do about this? The worst thing is to do 18 . Laura Mills, a teenager from London, agrees. “Problems and worries are normal in life,” says Laura. “But I think talking to someone 19 a lot. If we don‟t talk to anyone, we'll certainly feel worse.”

Robert Hunt, a social worker from England, feels the 20 way. “In English we say that a problem shared is a problem halved. 21 a social worker, I have to agree with this. We should never run away from our problems. We should always try to 22 them. Usually, the first step is finding someone we trust to talk to.”

Even Mr Hunt agrees that this doesn‟t need to be an expert like 23 . We can talk to our friends, teachers, or our parents. We often forget that our parents have 24 experience than us, and are always there to help us. The main thing is to know that if you look for help, you‟ll find it.

“You‟ll feel so much better if you talk to someone,” says Laura. For example, I once lost my purse, and I worried for days. I was 25 to tell my parents about it. I even walked three miles to school each day because I lost all my 26 . I just kept thinking, if I tell my parents, they‟ll be 27 ! Anyway, I believe you can guess 28 the story ended. I talked to my parents and they were really understanding. My dad said he sometimes made 9 mistakes himself. They got me a new purse and just asked me to be more careful. I felt so much 30 after talking to them. I will always remember to share my problems in the future!” ( ) 16. A. for B. with C. at D. from ( ) 17. A. even B. still C. yet D. ever ( ) 18. I wonder whether there is any girl or boy who does not like to see a rainbow in the sky. It is so beautiful.

There is a story, saying that whenever you see a rainbow you should run at once to the place where it touches the ground, and there you would find a pot of gold. Of course it is not true. You could not find the pot of gold or its end. No matter how far you run, it always seems far away.

A rainbow is not a thing which we can feel with our hands as we can feel a flower. It is only the effect of light shining on raindrops. The raindrops catch the sunlight and break it up into all the wonderful colours which we see.

It is called a rainbow perhaps because it is made up of raindrops and looks like a bow(弓). That is why we can never see a rainbow in a clear sky. We see rainbow only when there is rain in the air and the sun is shining brightly through the clouds.

Every rainbow has many colours in the same order. The first or the top colour is always red, and the next comes orange, then yellow, and last of all, blue. A rainbow is indeed one of the wonders of nature. ( )31. Children like rainbows because . A. they are beautiful B. they are like bows C. they can find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow D.

Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the

mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of words through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have purpose like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn‟t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience(耐心).

Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so hard for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds‟ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to stop climbing, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can‟t

3

see it before you reach the top. Only there you can see all of the nice things, which is just like your life.” At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got to know the meaning of hope in life. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal(水晶).

Western films play an important role in the history of American films. They are set in the American West. Most of the heroes are from famous novels. They speak highly of people‟s spirit, courage and building everything all by themselves.

Dreams are expressions of thoughts, feelings and events that pass through our mind

while we are sleeping. Everybody dreams. But only some people remember their dreams. Our

4

dreams often include all the senses—smells, sounds, sights, tastes and things we touch. Sometimes we dream the same dream over and over again. These repeated dreams are often unpleasant.

Early in the twentieth century, two famous scientists developed their personal ideas about dreams. Austrian psychiatrist(奥地利心理学家) Sigmund Freud wrote a book called “The Interpretation(诠释) of Dreams” in 1900. Freud believed people often dream about things they want but can‟t have. Swiss(瑞士) psychiatrist Carl Jung worked closely with Freud for several years, but he believed dreams could help people grow and understand themselves. He believed dreams provide solutions to problems we face when we are awake. Today we know more about the science of dreaming because researchers can take pictures of people‟s brains while they are sleeping.

Other researchers are studying how dreaming helps our bodies work with problems and very sad emotions(感情). Robert Stickgold is a professor of psychiatry (心理学教授) at

Harvard University in Massachusetts. Doctor Stickgold says that when we dream, the brain is trying to make sense of the world. He does not agree with Sigmund Freud that dreaming is the way we express our hidden feelings and desires(愿望).

Scientists believe it is important to keep researching dreams. Doctor Stickgold says it has been more than one hundred years since Sigmund Freud wrote his important book about dreaming. Yet there is still no agreement on exactly how the brain works when we are dreaming or why we dream. ( )43. Dreams .

Success is not easy to talk about because for some people it means power, for some people it means wealth(财富), for others it is fame(名声) or great achievements. But I have my own

5

understanding of it. There are different ways to succed.

Success means to try your best. Many people believe that success means to win. In my opinion, it means to try your best when you do everything, no matter you will win or not. When you are taking part in a long-distance race, if you keep on running as fast as you can, you are successful, although you may be the last to pass the finishing-line.

Success means to work hard. No one can be successful without any hard work. Tomas Edison succeeded, because he had experimented thousands of times to find the best material for lights. Every success calls for hard work.

Success means not to lose heart. No one can always be the winner. You will certainly lose or fail some day. It is important for you not to lose heart. Nobel had failed many times when he was doing his experiments. Sometimes his lab was on fire and he was nearly killed. But he never lost heart and kept on trying. Finally he invented a new explosive(炸药). So when you fail or meet any difficulty, just believe in yourself, stand up and give the difficulty a heavy strike.

How to 56 Success means power , wealth , fame and achievements, but I have different 57 . Whatever we do, we should do 59 best, no matter we will win or not. Trying your best When you 60 part in a long-distance race, if you keep on trying your best to 61 , you are successful, although you 58 may be the last to pass the finishing-line. Hard work 63 to success. of 62 hard of us can always be the winner, so it is important for us success not to lose heart. Not losing heart Nobel 65 succeeded in doing his experiments many times, but he never lost heart and kept on trying. Finally he invented a new explosive(炸药). 56. 57. 58. 59. 60. 61. 62. 63. . 65. 六、缺词填空(共10空;每空1分,计10分)

You‟re standing with your classmates. E 66 is talking except you. Perhaps you‟re afraid they will laugh at when you say. Maybe you just aren‟t b 67 enough to speak.

Shyness is like a snake that crawls(爬进)into our mouth and s 68 us speaking. But we shouldn‟t let it stay there.

I am 29 years old. Even today, that snake still sometimes v 69 me. When I was in high school, I was so shy that I wouldn‟t talk to anyone except my parents and best friends. If a stranger asked me the

6

w 70 to a local shop, it was as if I‟d forgotten how to talk. One summer, I got a j 71 in a restaurant and that helped a lot. It meant I had to talk to customers(顾客). I had to tell them how m 72 their meal cost. I had to ask them if they want to drink Coke or Sprite.

This job taught me how to speak with people.

You may be too young to find a part-time job. But you can look for other c 73 to speak with people. You can offer to help an old woman carry her heavy bag. O 74 you can go to get a newspaper for your family.

If you do these things for a while, the „shyness‟ snake will soon begin to l 75 you alone. It‟ll look for another mouth to crawl into.
