GeneralDescription

TheCLC114isahighperformance,closeloopquadbufferintendedforpowersensitiveapplications.Requiringonly30mWofquiescentpowerdissipationperchannel(±5Vsupplies),theCLC114offersasmallsignalbandwidthof200MHz(0.5Vpp)andaslewrateof450V/µs.

Designedspecificallyforhighdensitycrosspointswitchandanalogmultiplexerapplications,theCLC114offersexcellentlinearityandwidechannelisolation(62dB@10MHz).Drivingatypicalcrosspointswitchload,theCLC114offersdifferen-tialgainandphaseperformanceof0.08%and0.1%gainflatnessthrough30MHzistypically0.1dB.

Withitspatentedclosedlooptopology,theCLC114hassignificantperformanceadvantagesoverconventionalopenloopdesigns.Applicationsrequiringlowoutputimpedanceandtrueunitygainstabilitythroughveryhighfrequencies(activefilters,dynamicloadbuffering,etc.)WillbenefitfromtheCLC114’ssuperiorperformance.

Highfrequencydevicesdemandagoodprintedcircuitboardlayoutforoptimumperformance.TheCLC114,withpowergainto200MHz,isnoexception.Agroundplaneandpowersupplybypassingwithgoodhighfrequencyceramiccapaci-torsincloseproximitytothesupplypinsisessential.Secondharmonicdistortioncanbeimprovedbyensuringequalcur-rentreturnpathsforboththepositiveandnegativesupplies.Thiscanbeaccomplishedbygroundingthebypasscapaci-torsatthesamepointinthegroundplanewhilekeepingthepowersupplysideofthebypasscapacitorswithin0.1”oftheCLC114supplypins.

Crosstalk(undesiredsignalcouplingbetweenbufferchan-nels)isstronglydependentonboardlayout.Closelyspacedsignaltracesonthecircuitboardwilldegradecrosstalkdue

tointerfacecapacitance.Forthisreasonitisrecommendedthatunusedpackagepins(2,4,6,11)beconnectedtothegroundplaneforbetterchannelisolationatthedevicepins.Similarly,crosstalkcanbeimprovedbyusingagroundedguardtracebetweensignaltraces.Thiswillreducethedis-tributedcapacitancebetweensignallines.

Followingaretwographsdepictingtheeffectsofcrosstalk.All-hostilecrosstalkismeasuredbydrivingthreeofthefourbufferssimultaneouslywhileobservingthefourth,undriven,channel.Figure2,“All-hostileCrosstalkIsolation”,showsthiseffectasafunctionofinputsignalfrequency.RListheresistiveloadforeachdrivenchannel.Figure3,“MostSus-ceptibleChannel-to-ChannelPulseCoupling”,describesoneeffectofcrosstalkwhenonechannelisdrivenwitha2VPPstep(tr=5ns)whiletheoutputoftheundrivenchannelismeasured.FromFigure2itcanbeobservedthatcrosstalkdecreasesasthesignalfrequencyisreduced.Similarly,thepulsecouplingcrosstalkwilldecreaseastherisetimein-creases.
