MTUmaintenanceconcept

ThemaintenancesystemforMTUproductsisbasedonapreventivemaintenanceconcept.Preventivemaintenancefacilitatesadvanceplanningandensuresahighlevelofequipmentavailability.

Themaintenancescheduleisbasedontheloadproﬁle/loadfactorspeciﬁedbelow.Thetimeintervalsatwhichthemaintenanceworkistobecarriedoutandtherelevantchecksandtasksinvolvedareaveragevaluesbasedonoperationalexperienceandarethereforetoberegardedasguidelinesonly.Specialoperatingconditionsandtechnicalrequirementsmayrequireadditionalmaintenanceworkand/ormodiﬁcationofthemaintenanceintervals.Inordertobeauthorizedtocarryouttheindividualmaintenancejobs,maintenancepersonnelmusthaveachievedalevelof

trainingandqualiﬁcationappropriatetothecomplexityofthetaskinhand.ThevariousQualiﬁcationLevelsQL1toQL4reﬂectthelevelsoftrainingofferedinMTUcoursesandthecontentsofthetoolkitsrequired:

QL1:Operationalmonitoringandmaintenancewhichcanbecarriedoutduringabreakinoper-ationwithoutdisassemblingtheengine.QL2:Componentexchange(correctiveonly).

QL3:Maintenanceworkwhichrequirespartialdisassemblyoftheengine.QL4:Maintenanceworkwhichrequirescompletedisassemblyoftheengine.

Themaintenanceschedulematrixnormallyﬁnisheswithextendedcomponentmaintenance.Followingthis,maintenanceworkistobecontinuedattheintervalsindicated.

Thenumbersstatedinthelistofjobsprovideareferencetothescopeofpartsrequired.

Notesonmaintenance

Speciﬁcationsforﬂuidsandlubricants,guidelinevaluesfortheirmaintenanceandchangeintervalsandlistsof

recommendedﬂuidsandlubricantsarecontainedintheMTUFluidsandLubricantsSpeciﬁcationsA001061andintheﬂuidsandlubricantsspeciﬁcationsproducedbythecomponentmanufacturers.Theyarethereforenotincludedinthemaintenanceschedule(exception:deviationsfromtheFluidsandLubricantsSpeciﬁcations).AllﬂuidsandlubricantsusedmustmeetMTUspeciﬁcationsandbeapprovedbytherelevantcomponentmanufacturer.

Amongstotheritems,theoperator/customermustcarryoutthefollowingadditionalmaintenancework:•Protectcomponentsmadeofrubberorsyntheticmaterialfromoil.Nevertreatthemwithorganicdetergents.Wipewithadryclothonly.•Fuelpreﬁlter:

Themaintenanceintervaldependsonhowdirtythefuelis.Thepaperinsertsinfuelpreﬁltersmustbechangedeverytwoyearsatthelatest(Task9998).•Battery:

Batterymaintenancedependsonthelevelofuseandtheambientconditions.Thebatterymanufacturer’sinstructionsmustbeobeyed.

Therelevantmanufacturer’sinstructionsapplywithrespecttothemaintenanceofanycomponentswhichdonotappearinthismaintenanceschedule.

ThisMaintenanceSchedulemayincludecomponentswhicharenotinstalledonyourengine;thesemaybedisregarded.
