Standing desks have become commonplace across Silicon Valley, offering health benefits to those willing to work on their feet. The British “Daily Mail” reported on October 23rd.

However, due to their high price, they have failed to catch on - until now.

Ikea has showed a „convertible‟ desk that transforms from a standard desk to a standing one at the touch of a button, and hopes it could make the standing desk mainstream.

People are being urged to pre-cook food in the oven before barbecuing it after research found most Britons make risky hygiene (卫生)mistakes at the grill.

The Food Standards Agency said food poisoning was a real danger of outdoor cooking, with 94% of people admitting to at least one bad barbecue habit.

In a survey of 2,030 adults, 21% said they believed they had been ill due to something they ate. And nearly a third admitted to not checking if food was properly cooked.

The FSA warned that food hygiene risks could lead to illnesses, which affect more than a quarter of a million people every year.

Ahead of the late summer bank holiday weekend - a popular time for barbecues - the government body issued tips to help people avoid food poisoning. Among the FSA's tips was advice to pre-cook food before putting it on the grill.

It warned that \"charred doesn't mean cooked\pink - and any juices should run clear.

When you walk into Mike Beavers‟ pigeon room, you will hear the happy coo from his flock of homing pigeons.

Beavers raises and races these birds near Kingsley, Iowa, USA. “Most people don‟t believe me,”says Beavers. “They ask, „How do you do that?‟ Then once I start explaining it, it really catches their interest to some extent and they say, „ Wow, that‟s pretty awesome.‟ ”

His love for the birds took off when he was a kid and he‟s spent the past 30 years building his team of racing pigeons. It‟s a family hobby. “I got out of it for a few years and after I got married, my daughter came along and it was something that she and I could do together because I don‟t shop,” says Beavers.

Beavers has about 150 birds, but these aren‟t ordinary pigeons. They‟re born to race and conditioned to travel long distances, and they have the instinct to always return home no matter where they are.

“They come back because this is home,” says Beavers.

“This is where they were born and raised and it‟s just their instinct to go home. Nobody even really knows the reason. It‟s one of nature‟s secrets and nobody has found it yet.”

These pigeons are kind of like flying GPS. That‟s what makes them so special.
