U.S.— A South African man could face up to 25 years in prison for joking that he was carrying a bomb on an airline, police said Friday.

The 40-year-old man was arrested at Johannesburg airport on Thursday after he told an airhostess on nationwide airliner after take-off from Durban that he had a bomb in his bag.

“We don’t take this sort of thing lightly. He could face a jail term of between five and twenty-five years without the option (选择) of a fine.”

Security precautions (安全措施) were taken against the man — a resident from the wealthy (富有) Johannesburg suburb of Sandown — on the flight.

Airline people didn’t find any explosives or weapons in his bags. “Security measures at airport and on plane have been intensified(加强) immediately after the recent horrific and tragic terror(恐怖)attacks in America,” a police statement

The gray-haired lady can’t wait to leave the building to search for her dad. Unless watched, she will walk in the streets in an effort to find her father, who died 30 years ago.

Not all cases of Alzheimer’s disease look like this, but Alzheimer’s is a serious disease that is said to be the fourth or fifth leading cause of death for people over age 75. It is said that about three percent of the U.S. population over age 65 have Alzheimer’s. In the early stages; people may exhibit short-term memory loss. Some may experience changes in personality, easy to be angry. As the disease progresses, patients might lose the ability to move and may be unable to speak or move at all. This progressive disease generally lasts 8 to 10 years before death occurs.

While no one is certain what causes these changes in the brain’s nerve fibers (神经纤维), their effect is certain. Alzheimer’s destroys not only the patients, but also spouses(配偶), friends and families.

What should you do if you notice progressive memory loss in yourself or a loved one? Have the person examined by a doctor who is a specialist in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Though many reasons other than Alzheimer’s disease may cause memory loss, its early diagnosis(诊断)and treatment may delay some of the most serious effects.

What feeling will you likely experience if a loved one suffers from Alzheimer’s disease? A person will often go through the various stages of sadness, shock, anger, and so on. If the spouse develops the disease, you may experience hurt and disappointment when he or she doesn’t remember you are married.

Life for the Alzheimer’s patients and their loved ones will never be the same as the disease progresses, bringing a deep sorrow, loss and even anger towards God. No matter what feelings are present, facing them honestly will serve one better than burying them. 70. What can be inferred from the passage about the gray-haired day?

A. She has been living with her father.

B. She was sad about the death of her father.

A. from Alzheimer’s disease and nothing else B. from sadness, shock, anger, and so on C. for a number of reasons D. with changes in personality

73. From the passage we know that .

A. early treatment may stop Alzheimer’s disease occurring

B. it is still unknown what causes the changes in the brain’s nerve fibers C. nerve fibers in the brain will cause Alzheimer’s disease D. when one suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, he will be buried

He was the baby with no name. Found and taken from the north Atlantic 6 days after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, his tiny body so moved the salvage (救援) workers that they called him “our baby.” In their home port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, people collected money for a headstone in front of the baby's grave (墓), carved with the words: “To the memory of an unknown child.” He has rested there ever since.

But history has a way of uncovering its secrets. On Nov. 5, this year, three members of a family from Finland arrived at Halifax and laid fresh flowers at the grave. “This is our baby,” says Magda Schleifer, 68, a banker. She grew up hearing stories about a great-aunt named Maria Panula,42, who had sailed on the Titanic for America to be reunited with her husband. According to the information Mrs. Schleifer had gathered, Panula gave up her seat on a lifeboat to search for her five children -- including a 13-month-old boy named Eino from whom she had become separated during the final minutes of the crossing. \"We thought they were all lost in the sea,\" says Schleifer. Now, using teeth and bone pieces taken from the baby's grave, scientists have compared the DNA from the Unknown Child with those collected from members of five families who lost relatives on the Titanic and never recovered the bodies. The result of the test points only to one possible person: young Eino. Now, the family sees no need for a new grave. \"He belongs to the people of Halifax,\" says Schleifer, \"They've taken care of him for 90 years.\"

It was a popular food everyone ate and it could have possibly made everyone sick. Anyone who had possession of pork would throw it out. Even the poorest of the poor wouldn’t eat pork. Signs were posted on poles and letters were sent to everyone to warn people of the pork. Shortly afterwards, even policemen in high positions were also getting sick.

Soon it became political and popular. Politicians(政客) rushed to the town to talk about politics and promised how they would find the solution if they were elected. One day, a well-known scientist from New York came to the town with a huge box containing many instruments and his possessions. He went to pools and the port and made measurements. He was quiet and polite. Then one day he made a speech at a newspaper meeting-room to announce his findings.

“I’m sorry to say your water supply is so heavily polluted; it is poisoned. I know who has been poisoning you all for such a long time. It is you who have been poisoning yourselves with pollution. 第三部分 信息匹配:阅读下面五段文字,从A-F六个标题中为每段文字选择一个最佳标题,其中有一个标题是多余的。(共5小题,每题2分;答案写在答题纸上) A. B. C. D. E. F. The coloured part of the eye is called the iris. There are three basic eye colours---brown, blue and green. A few albino people have red or pink eyes, but these are very rare. Many people believe that blue eyes are more delicate than brown eyes. In fact they are just as tough as brown eyes, although they are more sensitive to light. 2. We only see part of the eyeball, although the whole eye is as big as a table tennis ball. Light enters the eye through the pupil (瞳孔) and passes through the lens. The lens focuses the light onto the retina at the back of the eye. The retina sends the signal to the brain along the opic nerve. The image on the retina is actually upside-down, but the brain corrects it. As we get older our eyesight becomes worse. This happens because the lens isn’t as flexible as when we are young and the eye muscles are weaker. 3. Our eyes are the most important of our five senses. We receive 80% of our information about the world through our eyes. We also send signals to other people with our eyes. Some eye signals are unconscious. When we look at something nice, our pupils get bigger. But when we don’t like something, they become smaller. We cry when we are unhappy and sometimes when we are very happy. But we can also control some eye signals. For example, we can wink at someone or raise an eyebrow. Sunglasses make someone appear mysterious or dangerous, because they hide that eyes and so we can’t see the signals. 4.

Ways to beautify eyes Proper use of eye contact Techniques of eye contact Colours of people’s eyes Functions of different parts of the eye Variety of messages conveyed through eyes 1.

We find large eyes more attractive. Children have large eyes in proportion to their heads. Cartoon characters always have large eyes, too. We can’t actually change our eyes, but we can make them look bigger with make-up. Eye make-up isn’t new. Pictures in the Pyramids show that the ancient Egyptians, both men and women used it. False eyelashes can make eyelashes longer. Eyes shadow on the eyelids can make the eyes look bigger and more dramatic. Glasses can also make eyes look bigger. 5. We do not normally look into someone’s eyes for long, especially when they are very close. Eye contact can be very threatening, so people only do it when they want to threaten someone. It is also very intimate. This is why lovers gaze into each other’s eyes. It’s also why people don’t look at each other in lifts.
