Dear Henry,
How is it going? Knowing that there is going to be a Chinese Gourmet Festival in our city’s central square, I am writing to invite you to go there.
The festival is scheduled to be held this Sunday, during which, not only will you enjoy a super \"full Chinese breakfast\" of dim sum and tea, but you will come across stinky tofu that is hard to resist. Having just graduated from high school, I was 18 and living with my parents in Denver, Colorado. That summer I decided to take my most daring trip ever. I wanted to go to Utah to visit a dear friend I'd known for four years. My father had given me a small street motorcycle as a graduation present, and I worked out a plan to ride it to Utah.
I was to get an early start, ride all day, and arrive at my destination (Paradise, Utah) that evening. Arriving in Ogden, Utah in the late afternoon, I looked at my map for another route to save time. A small line on the map indicated an unimproved road heading northeast-straight to the little town of Paradise!
Of course I headed for it. The road quickly became single, dirty lane, winding through fields. As long as it was dry, surely I'd be OK. Suddenly, I lost control of the motorcycle and it fell over. I didn't get hurt because wasn't going fast, but I was puzzled and couldn't figure out what had happened.
It was dark. While my headlight showed me where the road was, I couldn't tell its condition, only that it was smooth. I started again, and once more fell over after a few feet. I looked around and found myself alone in a high mountain field. For the first time during the trip I started to get worried. A few minutes later I couldn't believe what I saw-a pair of headlights bouncing along the road toward me, coming from the direction I was heading for!
The man driving the small truck stopped and asked if I needed any help. Not the type to bother others with my problems, I said I thought I could get where I was going on my own, but thanked him for the offer.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
He explained the problem—a rain had fallen during the day.

【答案】
He explained the problem—a rain had fallen during the day. I then realized why the road
was so slippery and muddy. After another unsuccessful attempt I finally accepted his help, and we loaded the motorcycle into the back of his truck. He turned around and took me back in the direction he came from. He asked me where I was going and I told him I was going to visit a friend in Paradise. It happened that he had planned to go back to Paradise that evening.
I asked him why he was out there in the field at such a late hour. He told me he was a
roadman. He had a feeling that he needed to go down the road, but wasn't sure why. Then he found me. It took us the better part of an hour to make it to the next paved road. All the while I was amazed that he was able and willing to be there. He was so kind that he drove me to my friend's home, which made me less worried. I will always be grateful to him for going out of his way on a dark night to the middle of nowhere to help me.

This incident happened over twenty years ago when I was in high school. There was a debate competition in my neighbouring school. My friend and I volunteered to participate in the debate. There were many topics to choose from and I choose to speak on AIDS.
Even though I had no idea what the competition would be like, I decided to go ahead and prepare for it and I used an article from a magazine as reference.
On the day of the event, I practiced my lines but was feeling nervous as there would be many listeners and the stage fear was chasing me already and truly it caught up with me. I reached the auditorium (礼堂), and it was large. The competition began, and I was getting sweaty palms. I was at a loss when the speaker before my turn unexpectedly had chosen the same topic as me and also referred to the same magazine and reproduced it line by line, leaving me in a daze (恍惚) on what to do next as I just had a couple of minutes with me.
Soon enough I was on the stage and I could gather courage and speak for only two minutes. I felt so bad. I had not only let my school down but also myself. I then decided to put in my best efforts and overcome my stage fear and prepare well for the next debate. Luckily I did not have to wait long as the next competition was organized by my school.
This time my topic was against castes (印度的种姓;等级制度) in indian society. I wrote the script with my own efforts and practiced for hours in front of the mirror even though I had learned the script by heart.
The day came and this time I was confident about myself, I just went about doing my job and lasted for five minutes. I had a very satisfied feeling coming from within. When the results
were announced, I had come second in the event, I was so happy and all my efforts paid off.
