1 At an airport I happened to hear a father and daughter in their last moments together. Standing near the door, he said to his daughter, “I love you, I wish you enough.” She said, “Daddy, your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too.” They kissed good-bye and she left.
He walked toward the window where I was seated. I could see he wanted to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?”
“Yes,” I replied. Saying that brought back memories I had of my Dad. Recognizing that his days were limited, I took the time to tell him how much he meant to me. So I knew what this man was experiencing.
“When you were saying good-bye I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough.’ May I ask what that means?” He began to smile. “That’s a wish handed down from my parents.” Looking up as if trying to remember it in detail, he smiled even more.
“When we said ‘I wish you enough’, we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with enough good things,” he continued the sharing. “I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.” He then stood up and walked away.

So it should come as no surprise that companies are increasingly investing in training techniques to improve employee happiness. The question is whether these measures are effective.
New research published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology may have an answer. A team of scientists from Erasmus University analyzed the results of 61 happiness training studies published between 1972 and 2019. They found that 96% of the studies showed a gain in happiness after intervention and about half of the positive results were statistically significant.
Overall, the researchers estimate that such trainings increase people’s happiness by about 5%. To put that in context, the researchers note that getting married has also raised happiness by about 5% and becoming unemployed reduces happiness by 8%. Then which techniques work best? More studies are needed to answer this question, but the researchers note that trainings like cognitive reframing work better. There’s also something to be said for exposing people to various types of trainings within a given course. For instance, the researchers found that happiness courses that trained employees on several techniques instead of just one were more effective. They also found that voluntary participation contributed to training effectiveness. This suggests that organizations would be wise to make such courses available to employees rather than force them to.

上文“It seems impossible to separate them from digital equipment. ”可知孩子们很难拒绝电子设备的诱惑说明给孩子们建立使用电子设备的规则很必要,后文“Establish rules \information online”讲述了相关规则要从早期开始设立,让孩子们树立使用电子设备的责任心及不随意在网上分享个人信息等。故E项作者作为四个孩子的父亲分享自己的教育经验贴合上下文的内容,故选E项。 【32题详解】
下文“Basic, but important ones, can include not responding to texts from unknown numbers and never sharing their personal information online or with anyone they don’t know.(最重要的是不接收和回复陌生人的信息及决不能在网上和跟陌生人分享个人信息)”可知共享信息会帮助孩子们充分理解和尊重规则,故选F项。 【33题详解】
第二段“remember they will feel more willing to follow rules when you do, too.(记住当你也做时,孩子们将更乐意遵守规则。)”可知父母要给孩子做榜样,所以A项以身作则符合第二段的主旨,故选A选项。 【34题详解】

浙江省金华市金华十校2020-2021学年高二上学期期末调研考试英语试题(含答案解析) When my daughter Lily reached the fourth grade, I occasionally allowed her to walk to and from school alone. One warm spring day, a small friend followed her home after school. This friend had short stumpy legs and long floppy ears. She was the cutest puppy I had ever seen. And Lily begged me to keep her.
She had no collar or identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about running an ad in the lost-and-found but I really didn’t want to. It would break Lily’s heart if someone showed up. Besides, her owners should have watched her more closely, I told myself.
By the end of the week she was part of our family. She was very intelligent and good with Lily. This was a good idea, I thought. It was time my girl took responsibility for another life, so she would learn the nurturing skills she’d need if she decided to become a mommy when she grew up.
The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular ad jumped out at me and my heart pounded with fear at what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost puppy near the school. They sounded desperate. My hand shook. I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone. Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the ad. I quickly tucked the paper away in the closet and never said a word about it to my daughter.
By now we had named the puppy Molly. She followed us everywhere we went. When we went outside, she was one step behind us. When we were back from school or work, she greeted us by wagging her tail and barking cheerfully. When we did chores, she was there to lend a hand, or rather, a paw. It seemed as if she had belonged to us long before.
There was only one problem with this otherwise perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the puppy they were desperately seeking. But it was the most difficult thing I’d ever done.

浙江省金华市金华十校2020-2021学年高二上学期期末调研考试英语试题(含答案解析) Opening the door, I saw a woman with a little girl sitting in a small wheelchair. 【答案解析】 Finally, with sweaty palms, I lifted the phone and dialed. Secretly I was praying no one would answer, but a woman did. As I described the dog to her in detail, her voice shook with excitement and she wanted to come right over. Within minutes I heard a vehicle pull up at the driveway and some footsteps stop at the door. Head cradled in my hands and heart hammering, a thousand thoughts crossed my mind: I could pretend I wasn’t home or tell her, “I’m sorry, you have the wrong address.” But it was too late: the bell rang and Molly was barking.
Opening the door, I saw a woman with a little girl sitting in a small wheelchair. One look at Molly, and the little girl’s face lit up. “Here, Lucy,” she yelled, “Come here!” Molly instantly obeyed, wagging her tail wildly. My heart sank. Seemingly sensing my feelings, the woman explained that Lucy(Molly) was more than just a puppy to her daughter, who was left crippled for life in an accident. “Lucy gave her a reason to live,” she choked. Suddenly I felt relieved. God has blessed me with so much, I thought. As they pulled out of the drive, I smiled, knowing I had done the right thing --- that puppy was exactly where she belonged.
