This is an excerpt from a speech by Steve Jobs ( former CEO of Apple ) delivered to graduates of Stanford University . I was lucky --- I found what I loved to do earl in life .
Woz and I started Apple in my parents’ garage when I was twenty. We worked hard , and in ten years Apple had grown fro just the two of us into a $2 billion company with over 4,000 employees . And I had just turned thirty . Then I got fired . I was out .
I really didn’t know what to do for a few months . I even thought about running away from Silicon Valley (硅谷) . But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did . And so I decided to start over .
I didn’t see it then , but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of beginner again , less sure about everything . It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life .
Being fired from Apple was an awful tasting medicine , but I guess the patient needed it . Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick . Don’t lose faith . You’ve got to find what you love . If you haven’t found it yet , keep looking until you find it . Don’t settle .

When war broke out between Spain and the United States , it was very necessary to communicate quickly with General(将军) Garcia , who was somewhere in the mountains of Cuba(古巴) --- no one knew where . The President must secure his cooperation , and quickly .
What to do !
Someone said to the President , “ A fellow by the name of Rowan will find
Garcia for you , if anybody can . ”
Rowan was sent for and given a letter to be delivered to Garcia . How he took the letter , in four days landed by night off the coast of Cuba from an open boat , disappeared into the jungle , in three weeks came out on the other side of the Island , and had delivered his letter to Garcia , are things I have no special desire now to tell in detail .
The point I wish to make is this : Rowan was given a letter to be delivered to Garcia ; Rowan took the letter and did not ask , “ Where is he ? ” He was loyal to a trust . He acted quickly and concentrated the energies : do the thing --- “ Carry a message to Garcia ! ”
My heart goes out to the man who , when given a letter for Garcia , quietly takes it , without asking any idiotic (白痴的) questions , but delivers it . This man is wanted in every city , town and village — in every office , shop , store and factory . The world cries out for such : he is needed , and needed badly — the man who can carry a message to Garcia .

It was 3:30 in the morning and 8-year-old Walt Disney was doing what he did at that time every morning — rolling hundreds of newspapers he would soon deliver in his neighborhood.
It was hard work for a little kid who had to go to school, then deliver another round in the evening. But delivering papers beat picking apples for a living. That’s what he’d been doing before, on his family’s failing farms in Missouri.
Walt Disney, born in December, 1901, never had time for a childhood. As a result, he spent all of his adult life attempting to invent one for himself. In the process — almost by accident — he created wonderful childhood memories for generation after generation of children worldwide.
When the Disney moved to Chicago, Walt signed up for cartooning classes, working three part-time jobs to pay for them. At 24, he created a cartoon character called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, which was a great success. He then shifted his attention to mice, or one particular mouse called Mickey. And Mickey Mouse became an overnight success.
Success followed success, but Walt Disney pushed himself even harder. He produced Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, for which he won a special Oscar. After the Second World War, Walt came up with the idea of Disneyland. Everyone said it was too costly a dream, but he wouldn’t listen. His great world of fantasy opened on July 17, 1955. In the next seven weeks, more than one million people walked into Disneyland. The man who had spent a painful childhood now watched other people enjoy the perfect childhood world that he had created.

My passage into eighties a few weeks ago gave me a moment’s reflection and the thought that I should watch how others in this situation have been affected. After a while it seemed to me that the first 80 years are the hardest.
Once you reach 80, everyone wants to carry your baggage and help you up steps. If you forget your name or anybody else’s name, or an appointment or your own telephone number or promise to be three places at the same time, or you can’t remember how many grandchildren you have, you only need to explain that you are 80.
Being 80 is a lot better than being 70. At 70,people are mad at you for everything .At 80, you have a perfect excuse no matter what you do. If you act foolishly, it’s your second child-hood. Everybody is looking for symptoms (症状) of your failure of the brain.
Being 70 is not fun at all. At that age they expect you to retire to a house in Florida and complain about your arthritis (关节炎) and you ask everybody to stop mumbling (咕哝) because you can’t understand them. (Actually your hearing is about 50% gone).
If you survive until you are 80, everybody is surprised that you are still alive. They treat you with respect just for having lived so long. Actually they seem surprised that you can walk and talk sensibly.
So please, folks, try to make it to 80. It’s the best time of life. People forgive you for anything. In response to the question of what years were the most difficult , an 80-year-old responded “those between 10 and 70.”
Life begins at 80.

A. They are not respected by other people B. They are afraid of death.
C. They can’t understand many things. D. They are often forgetful.
15. The author wrote this passage in a ______ way.
A. humorous B.serious C.negative D.passive

People who eat dog meat argue that dogs have been eaten in China for thousand of years and dog meat has “health benefits”.
