摘要：A digital radio frequency (\"RF\") communication unit (103, 104) measures digitalsignal quality based on received signal strength information (\"RSSI\") and/or bit error rate(\"BER\") information. The RSSI and/or BER information are compared with a predeterminedthreshold. If the predetermined threshold is exceeded, then simulated RF channel noiseis injected into the speaker path during unvoiced periods in the message at a level whichindicates the RF signal quality to warn the user of the digital communication unit that theouter limits of a given coverage area are being approached.
