It was the first day of school. As the headmaster walked around the school, he heard a terrible noise coming from one of the classrooms. He rushed in and pointed at one boy, taller than the others, who seemed to be making the most noise. He caught him to the hall, and told him to wait there until he was excused.
Returning to the classroom, the headmaster gave a talk to the class for half an hour about the importance of good behavior.
“Now, ”he said, “are there any questions?”
One girl stood up, “Please sir,” she asked, “May we have our teacher back?”

On September 18, 1931, Japan attacked Northeast China. Chinese today still remember that day, each in their own way. Last Saturday, drivers in more than 100 cities stopped their cars at 9.18 am or 9.18 pm. They rang a bell to remember the
important day. More than 3,000 people in Henan put their names in a book. Many of them were students. They said they would never forget history and would work harder for the country.
On September 18, 1931, Japanese armies started to attack Chinese armies near Shenyang.
One day later, the Japanese army took Shenyang. It then went on to take all three of the provinces in Northeast China.
Soon after that, Japan started war over the whole country.

9.The Doctor’s Note
When you go to see a doctor, he will write you a note to take to the chemist for some medicine. Chemists are usually good at reading doctors’ notes. But sometimes doctors write so badly that even the chemist cannot read the notes.
One day a man wrote to a doctor to invite him to have dinner at his house. The doctor wrote a reply, but he wrote too badly and the man could not read it.
“What shall I do?” he asked his wife, “I don’t know whether he is going to come or not. I don’t want to call him and say that I don’t understand him.”
His wife thought for a while and then she had an idea. “Take it to the chemist, ” she said. “He will be able to read it for us.”
