二、课堂教学过程
Step 1: Play a video (Before the class) (1 minute) T: Show a video while organizing Ss to take their seats. Ss: Take seats, watch a video and listen to the music. Purpose: Arouse Ss’ learning interest. Step 2: Lead-in (2 minutes)
T: 1. Ask Ss to name the musical instruments played in the video.
2. Show some pictures of other musical instruments to analyze some string instruments. 3. Ask Ss to focus on the player.
Ss: Listen, observe the pictures and answer the questions.
Purpose: Ss are guided to the topic of this text: Liu Fang, a pipa and guzheng soloist.  Step 3: Skimming (3 minutes)
T: Ask students to skim the title to figure out the style of the text, and match the main idea of each paragraph.

2. Get the main idea of each paragraph. Pick out the key words in the main ideas to lay the foundation of last task.
3. Help Ss know the key words. Step 4: Scanning (20 minutes)
T: 1. Ask students to read Part 1, explain what the words in red mean and underline the supporting
sentences.
2. Guide Ss to read Part 2 carefully, and then choose the correct answers to the multiple choices on their handouts.
3. Guide Ss to refer to Part 3 and decide the following statements are true or false. Then rewrite the false one using accurate information.
Ss: 1. Read Part 1, explain what the words in red mean and underline the supporting sentences. 2. Read Part 2 carefully, and then choose the correct answers to the multiple choices.
3. Refer to Part 3 and decide the following statements are true or false. Then rewrite the false one using accurate information.
Purpose: Ss can understand and master some new words, phrases and related knowledge by doing
explanation, multiple choices, translation and correction.
Activity 5: Choose the correct words to complete the letter. (3 minutes) T: Help Ss to choose the correct words to complete the letter.
Ss: Read the letter and pick out the correct words to complete the letter.
Purpose: Help Ss to review what they’ve learnt in this lesson to make an preparation for finishing
the task.
Step 6: Task: Make a phone call. (10 minutes)
T: 1. Group Ss and ask each group to choose one topic and make a dialogue in pairs.
2. Assess Ss work in this lesson by checking their answers. T may leave some space for Ss’ assessments.
Ss: Choose one of the topics and then make a dialogue with the partner.
Purpose: Encourage Ss to use the words and phrases used in the text to retell the passage. Step seven: Conclusion and assignments (2 minutes) 1. Review the new words and phrases.
2. Choose the best words to complete the exercises on P.45~46.
3. Write an e-mail to your English teacher to introduce your favorite musician, using the new words and phrases learned in this class.
