1. Introduction
The beginning of the internship was not my first practical job, but it still made me excited. Through internship I learned much knowledge that books cannot teach me, such as the valuable work experience, the skills of communication and the deeper thinking about many problems. More importantly, from now on I really stepped into the society, to shoulder my responsibility. I worked as a procurement assistant in a foreign trade company. My job was to assist the production of a series of the required documents for export after my boss signed a contract with the client, and these documents were passed though the Internet, fax, and telephone. Moreover, I must keep record whether my superior contacted forwarder charter booking, or whether urge the factory delivery on time. At the same time, knowing the goods trade terms was necessary for my job. Therefore, I not only finished my work, but also to consolidate my professional knowledge.
2. Goals and Objectives
My goals of this internship are as follows. Fist, it can enable me to the altitude from theory to practice, to realize the combination of theory and practice, as well as to lay the preliminary knowledge for my future work. Second, through this internship let me personally experience the transformation from a student to a professional person. Third, I can have great reference for my later graduation practice from this internship. Four, this internship can help me a more comprehensive understanding of the society and understand foreign business activities. My objectives of this internship mainly have two aspects. On the one hand, I should familiar with the foreign trade business process, the platform of online business. On the other hand, I can contact foreign customers with email, combine book knowledge with practical operation to fulfill the tasks assigned by the company.
3. The Organization and my Work in it
Fourl (china) Products Manufacturing Co., Ltd is committed to build China’s largest gift companies. It has large service outlets and gains high recognition from several companies and institution. The main products they offer are gifts and household products. It engaged in domestic trade and foreign trade business and it is the designated supplier of several multinational enterprises.
4. The Gap between the Experience and my Expectations
Before I participate in internship, having a job that I like is perfect. I can think of working with my colleagues merrily in the office, and then going to relax after work. I can be one of their friends and can go along well with them easily. However, most of them focus on their own work, and they are too busy to pay attention to me. On the other hand, my work is not as simple as I think. I must make effort to learn the main communication tools, and keep careful records of all major information. When I came to the company on the first day, a colleague arranged a desk for me, and then taught me the basic knowledge of voucher. There were so many questions that confused me.
5. New Skills and Information Gained
First, I gain the interpersonal communication skill. As a procurement assistant, I must communicate well with my superior. On the first day, I even can’t deal with the document by the help of fax. In this case, I need to communicate well with my colleagues, and to seek their help. Second, this internship gives me a chance to strengthen the skill of learning English. For foreign trade professionals, not only master certain professional knowledge, but also must be written in English and other thing. If the professional English knowledge is not good, it’s hard to work, even affect the business smoothly. Therefore, I strengthen the learning of English, and master the basic terminology of foreign trade.
6. Difficulties Encountered
In the beginning, I am afraid that I am not qualified for their work, because I feel my English is too poor to prepare the work. As a result, I do everything funky, and scare to make some mistakes. The feeling of fear tortures me very much. That’s what I want to say, sometimes, spiritual torture may be more painful than those of the body. After a few days, I slowly relax and concentrate on my work. At the same time, I deeply understand that the international trade is full of intermediate links and has wide range. Except for the trading on both parties, it also involves the commodity inspection, transportation, insurance, financial, railway stations, ports and customs department, etc. If one link out of the problem, will affect the whole transaction, and is likely to cause legal disputes. At this point, my knowledge of trade is so shortage that I encounter some professional problems.
7. My Shortcomings
Through this internship, I found I had some weak links in study, and pointed out the direction for my future learning, as well as lay good foundation for my future work. Before, filling
sheet is always incomplete, and there will be a lot of mistakes. It reminded me that I need to be more and more careful during working. There is nothing wrong with making mistakes, but what we should do is to never allow the second time in the same problem. Fortunately, I have been able to compare the right fills in the necessary documents after training. Although we are not really involved in the business, just do some simple work, such as fill in single, it still requires that we should have solid professional knowledge base. During the internship, I was confused by some business trade terms. That means I need to spend more time on my professional study in order to be handy in the real work.
8. Influence on my Future Study
Through this period of internship, I mainly have the following comments. First of all, I should have perseverance in my future study. For example, as students, company does not immediately arrange work for us; typically let us familiar with the company’s working environment. During this time, many people will feel very boring, and have the idea of leaving. At this point, we must not give up easily. Secondly, I should learn much from fools. In the process of work, we will encounter many problems that we don’t understand. At this point, we should ask colleagues modestly and then accept modestly. Making mistakes doesn’t matter, what really important is to acknowledge mistakes. Moreover, I have a lot of changes in the employment mentality. In the past, I always want to find a suitable job in my field. But now we all know looking for a job is difficult, having a professional job harder. So we should adjust the mentality of a good employment and reduce our employment expectations. We should be employed first, and then find another good job.
9. Suggestions for Teachers
First, care much about the life of internships and encourage students to participate in the intern lectures as well as create a good atmosphere of them.
Second, keep on carrying out the guide work in the internship process, and provide some appropriate advice to the students.
Third, share more experience with students, and teach students how to better finish the work during the internship.
