Abstract: The main content of industrial design is product design, and its study field includes two major parts, namely, science study and art study. However, with the development of scientific and technological information, the teaching of industrial design specialty is also influenced by information technology, and the appearance of industrial design is constantly changing. At present, the core of industrial design education is the cultivation of students’ innovative ability. Exploratory, innovative and versatile talents are the training objectives of students in colleges and universities, and also the standards of talents needed by modern society. This paper explores how to cultivate students’ innovative ability in the course teaching of industrial design specialty.

owadays, the economic information is developing at a high speed, and it is also an era of advocating all-round innovation. In this era, if college students want to enhance their core competitiveness, it is essential to cultivate their innovative consciousness and ability. With the development of the times, industrial production has come, and industrial production affects every aspect of our life and study. So industrial design can improve our living conditions and living environment in industrial production, and make the products produced in industrial production more in line with our usage rules and more convenient for our life. Industry has achieved the goal of “changing life with design” and met the demand of “creating market with design”. 1. Requirements of Cultivating Students’ Innovative Ability
The cultivation of innovative ability requires students to dare to break the old ideas and be able to use new ideas to solve practical problems. Therefore, if a student wants to have innovative ability, he needs keen observation, bold imagination, different spirits, complete knowledge and theoretical structure and strong hands-on operation ability.
(1) Keen observation.
All designs are derived from life, and innovative design is to redesign things that are inconvenient and uncomfortable to use in daily life; It is also the design thinking of students based on some new ideas inspired by the details of daily life study, and finally design new improved products or brand-new products [1]. For example, the traditional design of power outlets that are often used in our life can meet the needs of people’s daily life. However, with the increasing number of household appliances, some chargers with large size but low power can’t be used at the same time, causing great inconvenience to life. If the power outlets are designed in a circular shape, their utilization rate can be greatly increased. Innovative design of these items in life requires the designer to have keen observation.
(2) Have a rich and bold imagination
Rich imagination is the source of creation. If students want to create more valuable things, they should break the original fixed thinking, enrich their imagination, make bold imagination among different objects, see the connection that others don’t realize, and add imagination to design, so that their works can be more innovative and creative. For example, ancient Chinese craftsmen invented saws according to serrated leaves; According to the light of fireflies, modern science and technology have invented artificial cold light that doesn’t hurt eyes, etc. These inventions are the result of designers’ bold imagination. When designing, students might as well imagine boldly adding new creative elements to their own works.(3) Have a sound knowledge structure
Innovation is never a fantasy or a random change of objects, but a design transformation based on one’s deep professional knowledge and years of creative experience. An excellent designer must have solid basic knowledge, whether it is professional knowledge of design or knowledge of art categories. Therefore, students majoring in industrial design must pay attention to the mastery and accumulation of knowledge in the learning process. Only by constantly improving their knowledge structure can they have answers and design excellent works [2].

(4) Have practical ability
When designing an article, an industrial designer must not only have relevant theoretical knowledge, but also have strong hands-on ability. The cultivation of innovation ability is to cultivate students’ practical application ability and hands-on operation ability, so that students can enhance their design ability through direct operation.
2. Explore and Cultivate Students’ Innovative Ability
(1) Exploration on Strengthening Teaching Methods of Industrial Design Course for Teachers
When teachers teach industrial design, they don’t directly instill theoretical knowledge into students, but guide students to think and innovate in class, so that students can think and explore by themselves. Teachers can guide, inspire and encourage students to learn how to learn when students learn independently. Teachers can carry out design activities in the classroom. During the activities, students can understand the design knowledge in textbooks, and teachers can analyze the knowledge content in depth, so that students can actually design projects according to the knowledge they have learned. During the operation, students can integrate the knowledge they have learned and design methods, and students can build their own knowledge system to truly turn knowledge into their own abilities. At the same time, teachers can also let students express their ideas about design projects in class, and share and communicate with students, which can not only spread students’ thinking, but also promote students’ independent exploration.
(2) Teachers pay attention to the practicality of teaching design courses.
Industrial design major is a major that requires high knowledge and operability of students. Students’ learning includes both theoretical knowledge and practical operation activities. In the process of teaching, teachers must let students participate in classroom design, so as to better stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning and cultivate students’ innovative ability. Therefore, teachers can bring the competition items into the classroom, so that students can not only finish the entries, but also improve students’ learning initiative. Competition into the classroom can bring new vitality to teachers’ teaching, and also provide a platform for students to fully display their knowledge and ability, so that students can strengthen hands-on operation ability, enhance self-confidence and cultivate students’ knowledge application ability in stimulating the tense learning atmosphere [3].
(3) Cultivating Innovative Ability in Team Cooperative Learning
Teachers must pay attention to the role of the team when teaching. Students’ classroom design does not necessarily require students to complete it alone. Teachers give students a design topic that can be completed by the cooperation

of student groups. One design with some parts is never completed independently by a designer. He needs different support from his own team members. Therefore, teachers must also pay attention to cultivating students’ teamwork ability when teaching, and combine the collective wisdom of the team to complete the design project. At the same time, a qualified and excellent industrial design talent must have a certain depth and breadth of knowledge. In the process of design, he knows and studies the knowledge between different disciplines, so it is necessary to have a professional team. Cooperation and mutual learning among teams can enhance the basic ability and innovation ability of team members.
(4) Establish diversified teaching process and teaching evaluation.
When teaching, teachers should give students enough respect and tolerance, encourage students to dare to question, dare to explore, have their own ideas and experiences in the design process, and do not follow others’ advice or blindly follow others’ advice. Teachers should protect students’ curiosity and exploration desire, provide students with a relaxed learning and exploration environment, and cultivate their creativity and imagination. Teachers’ evaluation should also be diversified, paying attention to students’ design achievements as well as students’ thinking and design process, and making multi-dimensional evaluation of students’ performance, which can not only promote students’ initiative in learning, but also help students to correct and guide their problems in time [4].
3. Conclusion
Teachers should cultivate students’ innovative ability in the course of industrial design, and innovate teaching methods according to students’ situation, so as to cultivate students’ innovative ability and practical ability. In the course teaching, guide students to learn the basic design knowledge and the knowledge of art types that will be applied in the design. Teachers should also evaluate students’ behaviors effectively, so that students can know their strengths and weaknesses and try to make up for their weaknesses in their studies. In daily life, students should also pay attention to observing things around them, boldly imagine and improve their innovative ability.
