The US Education System

America is the most developed country on education in the world. The US education system has an old history of evolution, including Primary education, Secondary education and Higher education.

In US, primary school most consists of five years of education, referred to as first through fifth grade. The first year at school belongs to Childhood Education, which is called kindergarten.

Upon accomplishment of primary education, American students enroll in Secondary school. Secondary school most commonly consists of seven years, referred to as sixth through twelfth grades. During ninth to twelfth grades, it’s called high school. Upon completion of twelfth grade, American students must have obtained a high school diploma before they are admitted to college or university.

High education is the most famous part on the US education system. There are universities, colleges, technical training schools and community colleges, and each type usually offers a slightly different system. The undergraduate includes a two-year degree called an associate degree and a four-year degree called a bachelor’s degree. Students who complete an associate degree are capable of continuing their education at a four-year school to attain a bachelor’s degree. After completing the bachelor’s degree, students can pursue one of two types of degrees. The first type is called master’s degree, which is usually a two-year degree that is highly specialized in a specific field. Students who want to advance their education even further in a specific field can pursue a doctorate degree, which is also called PhD. It will take three and six years to finish a PhD degree.

In the US education system, students have many opportunities to approach to the nature and society through practice. Schools in US pay attention to cultivating students’ personalities, such as creativity, organizational capacity and leadership. College students in US are encouraged to attain the success of academic, which leads to a phenomenon that many award winners of Nobel Prize are Americans.
